AREA HISTORY
Sanctuary...
In 1878, a pioneer named Matt Heyden won the rights to name this spring-fed lake surrounded by the foothills of the Selkirk Mountains. in a poker game. The spelling changed over time.
Excellent hunting and fishing attracted sportsmen around the nation, including Presidents Taft and Teddy Roosevelt. In 1907, Idaho’s first 18-hole golf course opened here, eventually becoming the Hayden Lake Country Club, known nationwide as an exclusive resort destination. Bing Crosby’s love for golf and fishing led him to build his summer home on the northwest shore.
Today Hayden Lake’s peaceful surroundings and rich history survive, making it one of the most sought after waterfront settings in North Idaho.
SITE HISTORY
A future reconnecting with the past
The Cottages at Hayden Lake rest on the former site of Tobler’s Marina, a leading boat dealer in North Idaho for 45 years. Tobler’s eventually moved from Cooper’s Bay to the town of Hayden for more convenient customer access. But the limited access and quaint setting of the original marina site presents a rare opportunity. Where a boat dealership and shop once stood is now a self-contained, private and exclusive lakeside community, appropriate to the legacy of living well at Hayden Lake.
